About me

I'm a professional photographer focusing almost completely on the natural world. My passion for photography started when I was 19 years old. After my high school career had ended I knew college wasn't in my future. It wasn't even a thought. The idea of four more years of schooling horrified me. So I started looking for a "cool" summer job that would take me outside of Oregon. After hours of searching the web (In 1999 dial up was the norm. It took hours, literally.) I found a job in Grand Teton National Park. To make a long story short I instantly fell in love with the Teton Range and I spent all of my free time exploring them. I quickly developed a deep connection and appreciation the raw beauty of my surroundings.

My life has been and continues to be deeply impacted by the natural world. For me, being in nature is like going home. The worst part about doing what I do is that I have to return to the grind of everyday life. I would rather be out in the natural world exploring! I like to keep photography simple. My entire workflow is designed around "simplicity". I don't "look" for scenes to photograph, but rather they find me. My images are intentional relationships with the subject matter. If a particular scene doesn't move me in some way or another I don't make an image of it. I never make an image with the expectation that others will like it or that I can sell a bunch of prints. If anything I hope my images motivate others to get out and explore their surroundings.

So why photography? I can't paint! Seriously though, photography presented me with an opportunity to express what I was feeling and witnessing. Feelings and emotions can’t be photographed in the literal sense. The warmth of the sun, as it breaks the eastern horizon at sunrise simply can’t be felt in the form of a print. Through my work, I hope to evoke a sense of belonging, connection, and purpose with the natural world. Every day the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, but no two sunrises are ever the same. Each new day brings with it a new beginning and a new opportunity to discover something never before seen. The beauty of the natural world is all around us just waiting to be explored!
